M. S. WANGEROOGE

Postcard published by Verlag Schöning & Co + Gebrüder Schmidt, Lübeck, 439.

The Wangerooge is one of two ferries in regular use between the island of Wangerooge and Harlesiel in the North Sea. The ship is operated by the Warrings shipping company on behalf of Deutsche Bahn's SIW Schifffahrt und Inselbahn Wangerooge. The ship, built at the Husum shipyard in 1985, replaced a 1960 predecessor ship of the same name. The ship, 45.3m long and 9.32m wide, is purely a passenger ferry. Only checked baggage is transported on the forecastle in small containers. The small containers are loaded onto the fo'c'sle with a ship-mounted crane and then onto the island railway in Wangerooge. Despite the shallow draft of the Wangerooge, the Wangerooge-Harlesiel ferry connection is tidal dependent.
